During the past century, science and technology have contributed to an agricultural revolution, allowing farmers and the food industry to feed more than 7 billion people today. Now a new challenge is rising: according to the FAO the world population will reach nine billion people by 2050, and it is now obvious that current agricultural production systems are no longer able to provide the required level of nutrition while matching the new environmental priorities of sustainability. Among the many challenges ahead, a major hurdle involves replacing traditional agricultural inputs (synthetic and non-sustainable fertilizers and pesticides) with natural, safe, biosourced and biodegradable bioinputs.

Despite a huge interest and large amounts of research in the field of sustainable farming, by both academic teams and private companies, farmers are still waiting for high-performing, affordable bioinputs. Most of the existing biofertilizers and biopesticides are dedicated to greenhouse production with controlled conditions, allowing high and reproducible yields. The situation is clearly different for crop production in fields, where conditions are hypervariable, with no reliable high-performance products on the market.

To overcome this unprecedented challenge, and support the development of sustainable agriculture, Kapsera offers innovative and natural formulations for biofertilizers and biopesticides. Our formulation technology is based on a microfluidic encapsulation process, producing small alginate capsules that enhance the performance of bioinputs.
